Position Summary:
MPLX Logistics and Storage (L&S) Accounting records costs and revenue for the L&S segment, prepares financial statements for operated joint ventures, engages with the business through financial reports, and maintains accounting records for SEC and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) reporting.
The Senior Accountant position is responsible for pipeline deferred revenue accounting, reviewing new revenue agreements, accounting for project reimbursement agreements, and preparing quarterly financial disclosures. The position prepares and provides the business with budgets and forecasts for deferred revenue recognition. This position works closely with various organizations across the company including Technical Accounting, Business Development, and Pipelines Business Operations and Planning. The successful candidate should be results driven and a self-starter with strong analytic skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Account for transportation service agreements. This includes recording, forecasting, planning, and reporting of deferred revenues.
Support MPLX L&S revenue accounting process through agreement invoicing, monthly reviews, and recording reclass entries
Review new agreements with operations and Technical Accounting
Account for project reimbursement agreements
Prepare key information for financial reporting disclosures
Complete closeout activities including journal entry preparation, account review and analysis, reporting, and account reconciliation
Lead/participate in special projects as assigned
Prepare and/or review FERC financial statements as requested
Assume other accounting responsibilities as required
Drive for continuous improvement of business and systems processes, while maintaining integrity of controls and accuracy of the financial statements
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or related field is required.
Minimum 3 years accounting/finance experience is required.
