Established in 1923 in Iola, Kansas, Allen Community College is a comprehensive, two-year post-secondary institution located in Iola, Kansas along with a robust online learning program. With a proud 100-year history of educational excellence, Allen Community College awards Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS), Associate of Applied Science (AAS), and Associate of General Studies (AGS) degrees, as well as career and technical education program certificates. Allen Community College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

The College enrolls approximately 2,400 students each semester, through its Iola, Kansas campus, online learning worldwide, community sites, and concurrent enrollment options within the six-county service area. Allen serves a large number of secondary students and online learners. Approximately 40% of Allen’s student headcount are secondary students and more than 50% of credit hours each semester are taught through online learning. The College employs approximately 110 full-time employees, including over 30 full-time faculty members, and approximately 100 adjunct instructors and operates on a budget of over $14 million. The College is supported by an Endowment Association that provides more than 200 named scholarships with assets of over $8 million.

Allen Community College is focused on being one of the most affordable Kansas community colleges and maintains rates of tuition, fees, and room and board that are among the lowest in the state. As shared in our mission statement, Allen’s goal is to provide “Quality Education in a Caring Atmosphere.”

The main campus is situated on 124 acres in Iola. Students here have the option to live on campus, participate in a variety of varsity sports and activities, and attend class both onsite and online. The Iola campus serves an average of 400 students each semester, offering an excellent learning environment for anyone seeking a quality, affordable college education.

Iola is in southeast Kansas, nestled between the Kansas Flint Hills and the Missouri Ozarks. Residents enjoy Iola’s quaint small-town and rural environment while staying within a two-hour radius of four major cities (Kansas City, Wichita, Tulsa, OK and Joplin, MO). Iola boasts the largest downtown square in the United States with colorful historic buildings lining the square’s eight blocks. In 2017, Iola was voted the Kansas Trail Guide Town of the Year with more than 25 miles of walking and biking trails. It has a world-class fine arts facility, a progressive new elementary school and secondary school system with recent renovations including a new high school STEM building, a local hospital managed by St. Luke’s Health System of Kansas City, a vibrant business and industry environment and a comprehensive faith community.
