Controller Job Description

We are seeking an experienced financial controller to oversee all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, as well as the development of internal control policies and procedures. The controller will also be responsible for AR, AP, reconciliations, state-wise sales tax reporting, financial analysis, payroll, and specific profitability metrics. The personnel should be experienced with Quickbooks Online and Financial ERP system such as Oracle or NetSuite. Experience in a startup is preferred. 5+ years experience in accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management & Control:
    • Oversee all company’s daily accounting functions.
    • Ensure that all financial transactions are accurately and timely recorded, filed, and reported.
    • Develop, maintain, and manage financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control.
  • Reporting & Analysis:
    • Working with management team for financial reports and to guide company’s financial decisions.
    • Coordinate and prepare monthly financial reports including monthly profit and loss, balance sheets, cash flow, project profit margin, and year-end financial statements.
    • Working with international subsidiaries accounting team to produce consolidated financial statements
    • Analyze and present financial trends, insights, and forecasts.
    • Conduct financial modeling to guide decision-making.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS and other relevant accounting standards.
    • Manage audits and liase with external auditors.
  • Revenue Recognition (ASC 606 Compliance)
    • Oversee subscription-based revenue recognition in accordance in ASC 606.
    • Ensure proper accounting for deferred revenue and contract liabilities
  • Sales Tax & Compliance:
    • Coordinate and manage the preparation of state-wise sales tax reporting with third-party.
    • Overseeing regularly reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance.
  • Reconciliation & Audits:
    • Regularly perform account reconciliations, ensuring accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
    • Coordinate audits and proper filing of tax returns.
  • Financial Strategy:
    • Assess and evaluate the organization's financial performance regarding long-term operational goals, budgets, and forecasts.
    • Identify, acquire, and implement systems and software to automate transactions.
  • System & Process Optimization
    • Oversee accounting software and ERP systems (Quickbooks and spearheading the implementation of Oracle system).
    • Automate financial processes to improve efficiency.
  • Team Management & Development:
    • Manage and provide training to AP/AR Team
    • Hiring and training new accounting staff as needed.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Master’s degree or CPA strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience as a financial controller, accounting supervisor, chief or senior accountant.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of financial reporting and data analysis.
  • Proficient user of finance software, Quickbooks Online and financial ERP, such Oracle Cloud ERP or Netsuite. 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Analytical abilities, attention to detail, and leadership skills.
  • Experience in SaaS company and knowledge of deferred revenue are preferred.
  • Experience with special accounting treatment of international subsidiaries and general transfer pricing knowledge preferred but not required.
  • Must be flexible with work hours including readiness of extended hours as needed.
